Turn the ROM copier over. Open the battery compartment lid. Insert the appropriate battery into the battery compartment. Close the lid.
Place the ROM copier next to the computer. Plug the copier's serial cable into a serial port on the computer. If there is no serial port, insert the ROM's serial cable into the serial socket on the Serial-to-USB adapter, and the adapter's USB cable into a USB port on the computer.
LIne up the grooves on each end at the slotted end of the N64 cartridge with the socket on the copier. Push the slotted end of the N64 cartridge into the socket. Press the copier's power button to turn it on.
Insert the disc that comes with the copier. Follow the menu commands on the installer when it appears on the screen. Quit the installer when it says it is done.
Click "Start." Select the "All Applications" menu. Select the ROM copy program that was just installed from the sub menu.
Click the "Copy" or "Clone" button on the program, depending on how the developer has set it up. Click the drop-down menu in the middle of the window that appears. Select "Desktop" from the list of choices. Click the "Save" button at the bottom of the window.
Do nothing until the program displays a text message that is has completed the copy process. Quit the program. Detach the USB cable from the Serial-to-USB adapter from the computer, or detach the serial cable from the copier from the computer's serial port. Turn off the copier. Pull the cartridge out of the socket.
Download a ROM conversion program from a Nintendo enthusiast's website, for example, Project 64 (see Resources). Double-click the file once downloaded to decompress it to a program on the desktop. Click "Start." Select the ROM conversion program from the "All Applications" menu.
Click "File" at the top left corner of the program when its main window appears on the screen. Select "Open file" from the drop-down menu. Navigate to what appears to the desktop. Click on the ROM conversion program. Click on the "Open" button at the bottom of the window.
Select "EBOOT" from the "File type" drop-down menu on the program's main secret. If there is no "File type" drop-down menu, ignore this step.
Select the "Save to" or "Destination" tab on the program's main window, depending on how the developer has set the program up. Click the drop-down tab in the middle of the window that appears. Select "Desktop" from the drop-down menu. Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the window.
Click the "Start" or "Convert" button on the program's main secret, depending on how the developer has set the program up. Do nothing until a counter has gone from "O" to "100" or a progress bar has filled in from left to right (depending on who the program is set up). Quit the program.
