DIY Gobo Projector

A gobo is a type of lighting used to create effects for photography and movie-making. A gobo is used to display an image or message on a wall. This is done by constructing a softbox lighting accessory to project the gobo. To do this, you will need to modify a standard floor lamp. However, before displaying your gobo you will need to first create the image or message.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the bulb housing of the floor lamp on the back of the cardboard box. Trace around the housing to make an outline with a pencil. Cut around the outline with the scissors to make a hole.

Open a word processing program on your computer by double-clicking its icon. If you have your word processing program already open, click the "File" drop-down menu and select the option for "New."

    • 3

Change the style of the page by changing the background color to a "Black" fill. Adjust the font size to the size you need for the text.

    • 4

Center the text on the screen, then type a message or word for the gobo. Click the "File"drop-down mend and select the option for "Print." Cut the letters from the printout with the utility knife.

    • 5

Place the paper over the open end of a cardboard box with the black side facing up. Secure the paper to the cardboard box with masking tape.

    • 6

Position the hole on the back of the cardboard box over the bulb housing of the floor lamp. Turn on the floor lamp to display the gobo on a wall.
