DIY: Round Tubing Rollers

If you have a small piece of conduit to bend and shape, you can build your own roller for a garage or workshop. A round tubing roller, also called a tube bender, can bend a round piece of conduit, which may be needed to run an electrical wire. The tube bender works by using pulleys that are attached to a wood frame.

Things You'll Need

  • 2-by-4 board, 8 feet
  • Circular saw
  • Screws
  • Power drill
  • Pencil
  • 1-by-3 board
  • Three 3-inch pulleys
  • Handle attachment

Instructions

    • 1

Cut two 1 1/2-inch pieces from the end of the 2-by-4 board with the circular saw.

    • 2

Measure and cut a 12-inch length from the 2-by-4 board. Repeat this step to cut two additional pieces.

    • 3

Place the two 1-inch pieces and two 12-inch pieces together to form a box. Drill two pilot holes into each end where two pieces of wood meet. Secure the boards with screws using the power drill.

    • 4

Measure the length of the wood box and mark the center on each side with the pencil.

    • 5

Measure and cut two 12-inch lengths from the 1-by-3 board. Measure down 5 inches from the top of each board and draw a line.

    • 6

Place one of the 1-by-3 boards on the inside of the 2-by-4 box on one of the center marks you made in step 4. Drill a pilot hole into the boards and secure with screws. Repeat this step with the other 1-by-3 board.

    • 7

Set one of the 3-inch pulleys into one side of the 2-by-4 frame. Make a mark for the center of the pulley on the outside of the frame. Repeat this step on the other side of the frame. Drill a hole though the hole on each side of the frame.

    • 8

Place a pulley between the 1-by-3 boards at the top of the frame. Make a mark for the center of the pulley. Drill a hole.

    • 9

Secure the two pulleys to the inside of the wood frame with a bolt and nut. Secure the top pulley using a third bolt. Attach a handle to the end of the bolt to turn the pulley.

    • 10

Insert one end of a piece of conduit into the pulleys on the left side of the roller. Crank the handle to the right to pull the conduit through the roller to make a bend. Repeat this step to make a round bend in the conduit.
