How Do I Put a Cutting Blade on a Dremel?

A Dremel is a small, hand-held rotary power tool used by home repair enthusiasts and hobbyists. The disc-style cutting blade is the primary feature of a Dremel because it allows the user to cut a wide range of materials in tight places that are too difficult to reach with a handsaw. Putting a disc-style cutting blade on a Dremel is easy, but must be done correctly to prevent damaging the blade or causing injury.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the screw from the top of the mandrel using the blade end of the Dremel wrench.

    • 2

Feed the mandrel screw through the hole of the cut-off wheel. Insert the screw/cutting wheel back into the mandrel. Tighten the screw with the Dremel wrench to secure the cut-off wheel to the mandrel.

    • 3

Insert the shaft of the mandrel into the rotary tool's collet.

    • 4

Push in the shaft lock pin and hold it while turning the collet nut clockwise to close the collet. If you do not push in the lock pin, the collet nut will spin without tightening. Insure that the collet closes over the shaft of the mandrel tightly and straight. Tighten the collet nut using the open end of the Dremel wrench. Release the shaft lock pin. The cut-off wheel is now ready to use.
