How to Connect Two Sirens to a Circuit Board

If you hear a screeching siren, it grabs your attention right way and makes you look to see what is happening. Although it is now used as a warning sound, the siren was actually developed by John Robinson in the 1790s to use as a musical instrument. In the early 1920s, people adapted sirens to use as warning devices. Connecting two sirens to a circuit board is similar to connecting two speakers to a sound system. The dual-siren system confuses intruders because they do not know from where the sound is coming.

Things You'll Need

  • Siren circuit board
  • Four speaker wires
  • Wire strippers
  • Soldering iron
  • Soldering wire
  • Wire cutters
  • 9-volt battery

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the speaker output on the siren circuit board. The speaker output is labeled.

    • 2

Strip one-eighth-inch from the end of the positive speaker wire using wire strippers. Squeeze the wire strippers on the coating of the speaker wire and pull the coating away from the wire.

    • 3

Position the exposed speaker wire onto the speaker output connector on the circuit board. Heat the soldering iron and place the tip of the soldering iron on soldering wire. Place the tip of the soldering iron onto the exposed speaker wire and output connector.

    • 4

Strip the opposite end of the positive speaker wire. Push the tabs on the back of one of the speaker input holes, located on the back of the speaker. Insert the end of the speaker wire and release the tabs. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for the negative speaker wire.

    • 5

Cut another speaker wire, using wire cutters. The wires are for connecting the second speaker. Repeat steps 2 and 4.

    • 6

Plug the 9-volt battery into the battery connector piece on the circuit board and test the system. If the system is working, both sirens produce sound.
