Things You'll Need
Instructions
Clean the surface of the boat with a soft cloth dipped in soapy water. Use a soft bristle brush to remove any stuck on contaminants. Spread tarps around the boat to prevent the gel from getting onto nearby surfaces.
Sand the surface of the boat where you want to apply the polyflake, starting with the 400 grit sandpaper, then with the 800 and 1,000 grit sandpapers.
Clean the surface once more with acetone and a soft cloth. Allow the acetone to dry one hour.
Mix two parts gel with 1/2 part hardener. You can use more or less hardener, depending on how quickly you want the gel to dry. In cooler temperatures, add up to one part hardener. In warmer temperatures, use as little as 1/4 part hardener.
Place the gel in the airbrush gun. Wear a respirator mask and safety goggles when using the sprayer. Spray the polyflake evenly over the surface of the boat. Hold the sprayer about 10 inches to 12 inches away from the surface of the boat. Spray just enough in one location to saturate the surface without causing runs or drips.
Allow the gel to dry until it is slightly sticky to the touch. Spray a second coat of gel over the first. Allow the polyflake gel to harden for 48 hours before using the boat.
