The Best Way to Cut Lexan

Lexan is a brand of clear, polycarbonate plastic owned by the GE Plastics company. It is a durable material that is often used as a substitute for traditional glass. The properties of Lexan are similar to those of Plexiglass, a brand of acrylic plastic trademarked by Roehm and Hass. The two similarities allow people to cut sheets of the materials the same way. A circular blade attached to a table saw is the best tool to cut Lexan because it is strong, fast and it maximizes the operator's control.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on the safety glasses to protect your eyes.

    • 2

Adjust the blade of the table saw so that its height is 1/2 inch above the thickness of the Lexan.

    • 3

      Turn on the table saw.

    • 4

Position the line you wish to cut on your Lexan sheet with the saw blade.

    • 5

Push the sheet into the saw blade, securely holding the sides to keep them from shifting out of place. Use a steady and gentle force and a feed rate of about 4 inches per second to push the Lexan through the machine.

    • 6

      Turn off the table saw.

    • 7

Wipe down the sides of the Lexan to remove any particles produced by the cutting process.
