Differences Between Cinefuse Diffusers

Engineered Cinefuse diffusers provide a design feature that allows photographers to swap out internal imaging elements in order to tune the adapter to the needs of specific projects. Cinefuse elements are the internal imaging elements. Cinevate is the company that produces Cinefuse diffusers for use in the Brevis35 camcorder. As of August of 2011, Cinevate offers six Cinefuse elements for various photo and filming effects.
  1. Cinefuse CF1, CF2 and CF3

    • CF1 elements offer the least diffused bokeh of the six available options. Bokeh is the aesthetic quality of the blur in the out-of-focus area of an image. This diffuser is the most light-efficient option for general-purpose production projects. The CF2 series of elements offers high levels of bokeh diffusion compared to the CF1 model. Due to the increase in diffusion, it does not contain an additional half-stop of light. A Cinefuse CF3 offers the greatest amount of diffusion compared to the other models. It creates filmic images that may be too diffused for many projects.

    Cinefuse CF1Le, CF2Le and CF3Le

    • The "Le" designation means the diffuser delivers a superior edge sharpness and reduced vignetting within the typical lens range. Le series diffusers provide better vignetting on slow, wide lenses and are for use on larger cameras with filter threads over 62mm. Cinefuse 1Le, 2Le and 3Le diffusers are replacement diffusers for the Brevis35 on camcorders with filter threads over 58mm. They offer light efficiency and invisible grain characteristics within the F-stop range when properly exposed. At the time of this publication, this diffuser is only available on cinevate.com to current Brevis35 camcorder owners.

    Lighting

    • Camcorder adapters are designed to allow a limited amount of light, but certain factors can cause your camera to lose some of that light. The main cause of light loss is due to how fast the lenses are. The amount of non-linear response on some camcorders also has slight effects on light loss.

    Resolution

    • A lens adapter or diffuser on a 35mm camcorder will cause a notable loss in image sharpness. This can be a desirable effect for some film projects, but it is a matter of personal preference. The type of camcorder, along with the chosen recording format, has a direct effect on resolution. Using the zoom function on a camcorder also greatly affects resolution, depending on the quality of the camera and how it is made.
