How to Cover Orifice Fittings

Covering an orifice fitting on a line requires the use of an orifice plate. To do this, the old plate needs to be removed before installing the new plate. However, you can install the orifice plate without having to remove the fitting from the line. This is done by inserting the orifice plate over an existing fitting. You will need to first obtain a new orifice plate that is the correct size for the orifice fitting.

Things You'll Need

  • Orifice plate
  • Sealing bar gasket
  • Orifice seal
  • Torque wrench

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the connection between the sealing bar and the clamping bar on a new orifice plate. Separate the sealing bar from the clamping bar on the body of the orifice plate by using the wrench.

    • 2

Place a new sealing bar gasket onto the fitting body of the orifice fitting. Place a new orifice seal on the new orifice plate.

    • 3

Attach the orifice plate and seal assembly to the orifice plate carrier. Slide the carrier assembly into the orifice fitting. The sealing bar/plate holder needs to contact the sealing bar gasket.

    • 4

Set the clamping bar in place and tighten the fasteners by using the wrench. Torque the fasteners with a torque wrench to 40 ft.-lbs. of torque.
