How to Cut Steel With Water

Cutting steel with water is a task performed by a water jet. A water jet pressurizes water to between 30,000 and 90,000 psi and then releases it through a special nozzle. This nozzle forces the water to form a coherent beam of water with extraordinary cutting power. These devices are used to cut metal in automobile manufacturing plants and cut through rock in mining operations.

Instructions

  Turn on the personal computer that is currently connected to the water drill. Upload the CAD file that will be used by the computer to cut the steel. Check the water tank to ensure that the system has plenty of water.

  Run a full diagnostic check on all of the water jet systems. Also check all water hoses to ensure they are in good condition and there are no leaks.

  Load the first piece of metal to be cut. Pressurize the water and start the water beam. The computer will use the CAD file to determine how it should move the robotic arm to achieve the best cut.

  Shut down and depressurize the system once the needed cut is made. Depressurizing the system helps to avoid accidents.
