How to Make Piano Keys Not Stick

It is hard to create beautiful music with your piano if the keys are sticking together. There are several factors that can contribute to keys that become partially or completely stuck in a depressed position. With some simple proactive -- and reactive methods -- you can keep your keys in proper working order.

  Allow the piano keys to receive adequate air circulation. This is achieved by allowing the cover for the keys to remain up, even when the piano is not being used.

  Check your piano periodically for debris and items that may have slipped in between the keys. This kind of interference can also restrict movement and cause the keys to stick. You can use a small computer vacuum to suck out small items, or tweezers to pull larger ones from between keys.

  Consult a professional piano tuner if the problem of keys sticking persists. You may need to have the keys removed and cleaned or have a dehumidifier installed, which can help alleviate the problem.
