X-80 Opto Pro Mounting Methods

The Hacker X-80 Opto Pro is an electronic speed controller for electric-powered radio controlled airplanes and helicopters. The speed controller accepts input from the radio control receiver and converts throttle commands from the transmitter on the ground. By switching the drive motor on and off at cycle frequencies up to 4,000 per second, the speed controller alters the speed of the motor with great precision. The X-80 Opto Pro is designed to work with brushless drive motors with more favorable power-to-weight ratios than conventional brushed motors. It is fitted with an extra large heat sink and a fan to dissipate heat generated by high frequency operation.
  1. Connections

    • Connect the X-80 Opto Pro to the motor either by direct soldering or by use of high-quality connectors. Leads from the speed controller to the motor should not exceed 8 inches. Insulate all connections with heat shrink tubing.

    Location

    • Position the X-80 Opto Pro in a location in the model where it will be isolated from vibration and shock. Allow adequate clearance around the controller for cooling. If adequate cooling clearance is not available inside the model, duct outside air into the model through cooling holes.

    Battery Pack Accessibility

    • Make sure the controller is accessible for battery pack changes. Battery packs must be plugged and unplugged in a single, fluid motion. Multiple touches of the battery connectors while fumbling with a hard-to-reach connector may damage circuitry in the controller.

    Mounting

    • Mount the X-80 Opto Pro inside the model with hook-and-loop fasteners or double-sided tape.
