How to Make Miniature Signs

Miniature signs are effective additions to a Christmas village, a dollhouse or similar small items. Creating a miniature sign that has the appearance of wood is inexpensive and requires no wood saws and little time. Using the right products will ensure that the sign looks authentic and adds a whimsical charm to your craft project.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay a piece of cardboard down on a flat work surface.

    • 2

Trace around your template with a sharpened pencil to create a miniature sign in the shape you desire. A juice glass or a small box that holds matches makes a good template for a miniature sign.

    • 3

Cut out the cardboard with a sharp pair of scissors. Trace the shape on a piece of scrapbook paper that has a wood-grain look on it. You can also use a brown sheet of construction paper if you do not have scrapbook paper.

    • 4

Use the scissors to cut out the paper shape. Cut another identical shape out of the paper if you want to cover the front and back of the miniature sign.

    • 5

Glue the scrapbook paper onto the sign with the school glue. Use a thin layer of glue, and allow it to dry before using the markers on the sign.

    • 6

Draw the lettering on the sign with the pencil and then trace over it with a fine point marker. Use the markers to create additional artwork that match the theme of the sign, such as flowers on a sign indicating a flower shop.
