How to Fill Torch Lighters

Torch lighters create a thin flame that burns hotter than the flame from regular lighters. The most common use of torch lighters is to light pipes and cigars for smokers. Compared to regular lighters, torch lighters are rarely disposable and need to be refilled when the butane fuel is empty. Due to the high pressure of the flame from a torch lighter, they end up using butane fuel quickly and will need to be refilled regularly.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the tip of the small screwdriver on the fuel refilling nozzle and gently press down. Keep pressing down on the nozzle until all the remaining butane fuel in the lighter comes out.

    • 2

Turn the flame adjustment screw on the bottom of the lighter clockwise with the screwdriver.

    • 3

Flip the torch lighter so the fuel refilling nozzle is pointing up.

    • 4

Press the tip of the triple refined butane fuel can into the fuel refilling nozzle on the lighter. Fill the lighter with fuel until butane sprays from the refilling nozzle, indicating the lighter is full. It will take about five to six seconds to refill most lighters completely.

    • 5

Touch the lighter with your hands every 10 minutes to see if the lighter has reached room temperature. The lighter will become cold during refilling and will not light until it has reached room temperature.

    • 6

Turn the flame adjustment screw a half turn counterclockwise. Try to turn on the lighter. If the lighter does not ignite, keep turning the adjustment screw counterclockwise until it lights.
