DIY ATV Snowblade Installation

An ATV (all-terrain vehicle) is a versatile machine that can take you and a passenger deep into the wilderness; with the installation of a snowblade, it can also remove the snow from your driveway or walkways. An ATV's small size and maneuverability contribute to making it an effective plowing machine. Installing the blade requires you to outfit your ATV with special brackets; once installed, mounting and removing the blade can be accomplished in a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Loosen the four bolts on the base plate just enough to remove the plow mount plate. Once the bolts are loosened, slide the plate down and pull it off.

    • 2

Line up the base plate with the bottom frame of the ATV. These base plates are custom fit for each machine, so it will align naturally with the shape of the frame.

    • 3

Hold the frame mount on the other side of the frame at the front of the ATV. Push two bolts through the base plate and into the bolt holes on the frame mount. Secure them with washers, lockwashers and nuts. Only finger-tighten the bolts at this time.

    • 4

Hold the frame mounts on the rear of the base plate and secure them using the same method you used for the front frame mount. Once everything is centered on the ATV, tighten the bolts with a socket and ratchet.

    • 5

Install the plow mount plate back onto the bottom of the base plate. Slide it into place and tighten the bolts with a socket and wrench.

    • 6

Lay the push tube in front of the ATV. Remove the bolts on the front of the push tube and slide the blade onto these brackets. Secure the blade by inserting the bolts back through both the push tube and blade holes; install the washer, locknut and nut and tighten them with a wrench.

    • 7

Hook one spring into the holes on the end of the push tube and secure the other end to the top of the blade with the supplied bolt, washer and nut. Repeat this step to install the other spring on the opposite side of the push tube.

    • 8

Push the blade and push tube under the ATV, aligning the push tube's arms with the plow mount bracket. Lift the push tube hooks onto the mounting bracket on both sides; lock them in place by turning the swing latch upwards until it locks.

    • 9

Tighten the blade stops on either side of the blade with a wrench. Tighten the spring bolts on top of the blade until about an inch of the bolt is above the nut.

    • 10

Place the ATV's winch in the "pull-out" position and secure the winch's hook to the blade's receiver. Place the winch in the "pull-in" position and lift the blade with the winch controls.
