Grip the tab at the top side of the disposable lighter with a pliers. Break the tab off. Measure 1 inch in from an end of the plastic straw. Cut through the 1-inch mark with scissors. Dispose of the rest of the straw.
Tear a piece of flash paper in half. Tear one of the pieces in half again. Roll one of the halves into a tube. Insert the tube of flash paper into an end of the 1 inch piece of straw. Leave the end of the tube overlapping the top of the straw.
Place the other end of the straw over the wick of the lighter. Tape the sides of the straw to the lighter with strips of duct tape. Place a piece of double-sided tape against the side of the lighter.
Hold the lighter with the flicking wheel facing you. Align the lighter against the inside of one of your hands so the flash paper coming out of the straw is between your thumb and forefinger. Press the side of the lighter against your palm so it sticks there.
Curve in on your hand that is secreting the lighter. Place your thumb against the flicking wheel.
Gesture broadly to your audience with your other hand, while talking about your magical fire powers. Point a finger of your hand at the hand that is secreting the lighter. Make a loud "boom" noise as you jab your finger at the hand and rotate the flicking wheel with your thumb. Gesture broadly with both hands as the flash paper makes a snap of flame seem to fly out of your hand.
Continue to gesture broadly with your other hand as the hand that has the lighter goes into your pocket. Push the lighter off your hand with your thumb. Bring your hand back out of your pocket.
