How to Mold a Miniature Crown Dollhouse

Crown molding adds a decorative touch to any room and a dollhouse room is no exception. Crown molding is easily created and inserted into miniature dining rooms or bedrooms. Molding ties a room together and often matches baseboards, window frames and doors. Tiny details such as arches and curves can be painted on the molding to make the molding mimic the crown molding in full size houses.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the dimensions of the room in the dollhouse with a flexible measuring tape. The perimeter of the room includes the lengths of all the sides added together. Cut a 1-inch-wide ribbon to match the measurement of the room, adding an additional 2 inches to the length. Repeat for every room you'll be molding.

    • 2

Dip in a paper mache solution of 1/4 cup school glue and 1/4 cup warm water. Fold the ribbon lengthwise to make a thicker layer. Repeat. Squeeze the ribbon together to remove some of the glue solution. Press one edge of the ribbon tightly to make it thinner than the other. Clip to a clothes hanger using a clothespin. Hang the hanger up in a warm, dry place. Allow to dry.

Trim the ribbon, just under the end of the clothespin. Paint the ribbon to match the decor in your dollhouse room using acrylic paint. Allow to dry. Put a thin strip of glue on the back of the ribbon. Insert into the dollhouse and press the ribbon molding into place using the end of a wooden ruler. The thicker end should be flush with the joint between the wall and ceiling. Adjust until the ribbon is flush with the wall and ceiling. Allow to dry. Touch up the molding with paint and a detail brush, if necessary. Repeat for all the rooms that will be molded.
