Instructions
Roll a slab of clay between your fingers. Place a sheet of wax paper on a table. Place the ball of clay on the wax paper.
Flatten the top of the clay with your fingers. Rotate the clay a quarter turn and repeat the procedure. Repeat this procedure an additional two times to form a cube of the clay. Smooth the now flattened sides of the cube you have made with the side of a butter knife.
Stand the clay on the wax paper with an unflattened side facing up. Flatten the top of the clay with your fingers. Turn the clay upside down and repeat this procedure to complete the cube. Smooth the top and bottom of the cube with the side of a butter knife.
Place an end of the wooden dowel against the top of the clay at its center. Press the dowel through the clay until you meet resistance. Rotate the dowel clockwise to enlarge the hole. Stop rotating the dowel when the hole is about an inch in diameter.
Turn the block of clay over. Insert an end of the dowel into the dimple of the hole that is visible at the top of the block. Press the dowel into the dimple. Rotate the dowel clockwise to enlarge the hole until it is about an inch in diameter. Remove the dowel as the ocarina mouthpiece is now done.
