Instructions

    • 1

Crush the walnut shells with a hammer. Try wrapping the shells in a handkerchief or piece of cloth before hammering. Doing so will help keep the shells contained and together, as well as help avoid losing shell pieces that may break off forcefully. Once you've completely crushed the shells, place them in a pot, then fill the pot with water.

    • 2

Place the pot on your stove. After the water has reached a full boil, turn the heat down and allow the mixture to simmer for 45 minutes.

    • 3

Pour the freshly heated mixture into a jar. To filter out any un-evaporated water, use a strainer when transferring the mixture to the jar.

    • 4

Add half a teaspoon of salt and half a teaspoon of vinegar to the mixture. Use a stirring spoon to stir in your newly added ingredients. These will help preserve your quill ink.
