How to Care for Arm Guards of a Bow

Archery arm guards are worn when shooting a bow in the traditional archery style. These guards can be made of plastic, cloth or leather. Proper care for these guards will extend their life and keep them useful for years. Plastic guards can be wiped down with a damp rag. Cloth guards can be washed in the washing machine. However, leather arm guards require a little extra work to keep them clean and to prevent them from drying, cracking or discoloring.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a mixture of one part vinegar to two parts neatsfoot oil or linseed oil. Rub this mixture over the leather with a soft cloth.

    • 2

Allow the oil and vinegar mixture to soak into the arm guards overnight.

    • 3

Buff the leather with a clean, dry cloth to remove excess oil and polish the guards.

    • 4

Rub a leather conditioning cream into the leather with a clean, soft cloth. This will protect the leather from moisture, such as sweat, rain and dew.

    • 5

Repeat the cleaning process frequently. If you keep the leather clean and conditioned, the arm guards will remain useful for many years.
