How to Dye Fox Skin

Like all fur and pelt types, fox skins require careful handling when dyeing to preserve the quality of the hair. With fox skins, a similar process to dyeing pet hair can be followed, though different types of dyes can be used. Hair dyes intended for use on pets and approved by the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association are good options, as is unsweetened drink mix. To be extra cautious, you may want to apply a small amount of dye in an inconspicuous area of the skin to ensure the dye does not react with your piece.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply a small amount of laundry detergent to the fox skin. Dampen the sponge with water and work the detergent across the entire skin. Rinse out the sponge and dilute the detergent with a little water if it is not spreading properly.

    • 2

Rinse the skin gently under lukewarm water. Dab the skin with the towel until the skin is damp.

    • 3

Mix the dye according to the directions if required. Apply the dye to the skin and let it sit for approximately 15 minutes.

    • 4

Rinse the skin thoroughly, then pat dry with the towel. If the color is not bright enough, repeat the dyeing process as needed.
