Instructions
Cut the 1-by-12 into three pieces with your saw; cut two pieces 20 inches in length and one piece 21 inches in length. Sand any rough edges with 100-grit sandpaper and place to the side.
Cut the 1-by-2 into four pieces, each 20 inches in length, with your saw. Sand any rough edges with 100-grit sandpaper and place to the side. Cut the remaining 1-by-2 board into 10 pieces, each 7 3/4 inches in length. Sand any rough edges with 100-grit sandpaper and place to the side.
Place all four of the 20 inch, 1-by-2 pieces tightly together on a flat surface with the 2 inch sides facing up. Using your square and a pencil, mark a straight vertical line at 2 1/4 inches, 6 inches and 9 3/4 inches from the left edge of the boards. Repeat from the right side. Place two of the boards to the side.
Lay the marked boards horizontally on a flat surface. Align five of the 7 3/4 inch boards vertically with the lines on the horizontal boards. Place one rail between the two lines in the center of the top and bottom boards, and place two rails on the left side, lining up the left side of the rail with the pencil line. Line up the right side of the rails with the pencil line on the other side. Place a thin bead of wood glue at the top and bottom of each rail and press the top and bottom boards onto the rails tightly.
Drill a pilot hole in the top and bottom board for each rail, then screw a 2-inch wood or finish screw through the board into the rail. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for the other side.
Place the two 20 inch, 1-by-12 boards side by side on a flat surface, and measure 6 3/4 inches from the bottom. Use your square and a pencil to mark this height across both boards.
Place a thin bead of wood glue across both ends of the 21 inch, 1 by-12-inch board and line up the bottom edge of the board with the lines on the 20 inch boards. Drill a pilot hole through the end piece and into each corner of the crib bottom, then screw 2-inch wood or finish nails into each hole.
Place one finished side piece on one side of the crib, with the bottom board resting on the crib bottom. Align the side piece with the sides of the crib, drill a pilot hole in all four corners, and screw a 2-inch wood or finish screw into each of the holes. Repeat for the other side.
Run your hands over all areas of the doll crib, checking for splinters or rough edges, and sand with 220-grit sandpaper, if necessary. Finish the crib by staining or painting it with the color of your choice.
