How to Make an Origami Top Hat

Top hats convey class and an air of sophistication to those who wear them. You can make your own top hat from a sheet of paper using the paper folding technique called origami. No special tools are needed.

Origami paper, 10-by10-inches

Instructions

  Place the origami paper on a table. Fold the top over to the bottom. Smooth the crease. Fold the bottom left corner into the center and smooth the crease. Fold the upper right corner into the center and smooth the crease.

  Turn the paper over. Rotate the paper a quarter turn clockwise.

  Fold the top of the paper down to the center. Smooth the crease down. Fold the bottom of the sheet just creased back up to the top of the sheet. Smooth the crease.

  Fold the left side of the sheet about two-thirds of the way over to the right. Smooth the crease. Fold the top flap into the center and smooth the crease.

  Turn the paper over. Rotate the paper a quarter turn clockwise. Fold the top of the sheet into the center beneath the top layer. Fold the two points at the top of the sheet on either side towards the other. Place the bottom of your paper top hat on a doll to give it a high-class look.
