How to Make Your Own Drawing Journals to Sell

Drawing invigorates the mind and allows you to express yourself. Unfortunately, the hobby can be expensive, as the cost of paper and art supplies add up quickly. If you spend a lot of time doodling in your sketchbook, consider making more dedicated drawing journals to sell.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy a blank sketchbook, or get paper and binding to make your own drawing journal. Getting a sketchbook from the store will be significantly easier and save you time, though some customers may find a handmade drawing journal more appealing.

    • 2

Pick a theme for your drawing journal. You may want to just do pictures of animals or you may prefer nature scenes or portraits. Consider splitting the journal into different, preplanned sections. Alternatively, just draw whatever comes to mind in whatever order you prefer.

    • 3

Fill your entire sketchbook all the way to the end. Completely blank pages will make your drawing journal less appealing, though it's acceptable to have some pages with small sketches or notes as the layout dictates. Depending on the weight of the paper, and whether or not your art materials bleed through, you may need to draw on every other page.

    • 4

Post sample images on online communities, such as Deviant Art, Flickr or the ConceptArt.org forums for feedback and to build a loyal following online.

    • 5

Advertise the availability of your drawing journal for sale on online communities. This is the cheapest, easiest way to spread the word about the drawing journals you have for sale.
