Place a sheet of newspaper on a table. Place the box on the newspaper. Fold in the flaps at the top of the box. Spray the outside of the box on all sides with the glossy black spray paint. Let the paint dry for two hours. Reapply another coating of glossy black spray paint.
Spray the inside of the box with matte black spray paint. Let the paint dry for two hours and then reapply another coat of paint to the inside. Turn the box over. Spray the bottom of the box with the glossy black spray paint. Let the paint dry for two hours and then turn the box over.
Measure the length and width of the box with a tape measure. Place the cardboard on the newspaper. Cut the cardboard to the same length and width at the measurements written down with a straightedge and the blade of a utility knife.
Spray the cardboard cut out with the matte black spray paint. Let the paint dry for two hours. Turn the cardboard over and paint the other side.
Hold the cardboard vertically. Insert the cardboard into the box. Angle the cardboard at a 45 degree angle inside the box to form two compartments.
Place a prop into the compartment at the right side of the box. Angle the front left side of the box toward the audience so that they can only see the front compartment, which makes it appear that the box is empty. Stand the box up and reach inside the back compartment to produce the prop as if by magic.
