How to Test a Pendulum

The use of pendulums is a popular divination technique used for answering simple yes-or-no questions. Many users believe that the pendulum, usually made from crystal or metal hanging from a string about 6 to 8 inches long, amplifies the user's natural vibrations. These help the subconscious provide the user with answers to simple questions based on the swinging of the pendulum (part of a practice sometimes also called "dowsing"). Before a pendulum is used, users test and calibrate it to their own vibrations. You can test your pendulum using the method below.

Instructions

    • 1

Sit at a desk in a quiet area where you can be relaxed and undistracted.

    • 2

Hold the pendulum in whichever hand feels more comfortable and rest your elbow on the desk as you let the pendulum dangle.

    • 3

Ask the pendulum (either silently or verbally) a question for which you know the answer is yes. For example "Am I sitting at a desk?" Watch the pendulum's response and take note of how it moves. This is what your pendulum's "yes" indicator will look like.

    • 4

Ask the pendulum a question for which you know the answer is no. For instance, "Does 2 + 2 = 5?" Now take note of how the pendulum moves to indicate a "no."

    • 5

Keep asking the pendulum yes-or-no questions that you know the answers to in order to recognize its responses. When satisfied, ask it the question you have been wanting to ask.
