How to Troubleshoot an OFNA RC Buggy

A malfunctioning radio-controlled (RC) OFNA buggy could result in permanent damage to the vehicle if not corrected. Whether interference causes erratic throttle behavior, or the vehicle's communication with the transmitter is failing, it is important to diagnose and correct any issues immediately. Learn how to troubleshoot your OFNA buggy to ensure optimum performance.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

  1. Engine

    • 1

Unscrew the glow plug (found in the top of the engine) using the pliers to gain access to the interior of the combustion chamber. Rotate the flywheel to check the piston's pinch. Spin the flywheel until the piston approaches the top of the chamber; if you feel slight resistance, pinch is fine. If not, you need to replace the piston and sleeve.

    • 2

Replace the battery in the glow plug starter, then insert the glow plug into the starter to check that it ignites. The entire coil should instantaneously glow bright orange. If the plug doesn't ignite, replace it.

    • 3

Tighten all of the screws on the heat-sink head and the back plate with the hex wrench. Tighten the screws in an X-shape; in other words, turn one corner screw a half turn, then turn the opposite screw a half turn. Repeat this process with the other two, then cycle through all four screws until they are all tight. This process is essential to preventing damage to the components and to ensure a tight seal.

    • 4

Reset the needle settings to factory default with the screwdriver. Tighten the low-end needle (found on the front of the carburetor) until the head of the screw is flush with the surface of the carburetor. Tighten the high-end needle (found on the top of the carburetor), then turn it two rotations counterclockwise.

    • 5

Check the fuel tank's pickup line for crud. Clean it out if there is any obstruction, as this can impede fuel flow.

    • 6

Replace your fuel with a fresh jug, then start up your engine as normal.

    Radio System

    • 7

Turn on the vehicle's receiver and the transmitter, then use the steering wheel to move the front wheels. Watch for any stuttering or erratic behavior.

    • 8

Step back a dozen feet, then move the steering wheel to assess the radio connectivity. If the vehicle begins to act more erratically, replace the transmitter battery and charge the receiver pack.

    • 9

Check all of the connections in the receiver to make sure everything is plugged in correctly. Pull out plugs and blow out any dust or debris inside the plugs themselves.
