Instructions
Determine where you will be raising the striped mullet. Ponds, streams or rivers are ideal.
Procure a floating pond fish cage and nursery. The size of the cage is dependent on the number of striped mullet you are seeking to cultivate.
Attach a rope float to a top corner of the cage and an anchor to a bottom corner of the cage. The rope will float so that you can easily locate the cage in the pond, stream or river you place it in while the anchor will keep it in place. When in the water, the cage should float in manner that keeps 1 foot of it above water at all times.
Put the baby striped mullet fish in the cage and cover the top of the cage with a fishing net to prevent birds from eating the fish.
Feed the fish rice bran, wheat or cottonseed at least once a day in the morning or late afternoon. Be sure to place the food in the center of the cage so that the fish have an opportunity to get to it before it floats away. The amount of food depends on how many fish there are in the cage and how fast they consume what you give them; if the food is eaten quickly, this is often a sign that the amount of food given should be increased.
Cultivate the fish after six or seven months using a hand net.
