How to Build a Video Gear Cart

A video gear cart is typically constructed of metal with wheels so it can move from place to place. You can make a video gear cart by cutting and assembling sections of angle iron. A source of angle iron that you can use for the cart is an old bed frame. However, the angle iron will need to be cut to the correct size.

Things You'll Need

  • Angle iron
  • Chop saw
  • Metal cutting blade
  • 2-foot by 3-foot piece of MDF (medium density fiberboard)
  • Bolts
  • Nuts
  • Wrench
  • Casters

Instructions

    • 1

Cut two pieces of the angle iron to 3 feet using the chop saw with a metal cutting blade. Cut another two pieces to 1-foot, 8 inches.

    • 2

Drill a hole at each end on one side of the angle iron with the power drill. Place the pieces of angle iron along the edges on the underside of the 2-foot by 3-foot piece of MDF (medium density fiberboard.)

    • 3

Secure the angle iron to the MDF with screws and then set this piece aside. This is the top of the cart.

    • 4

Measure and cut two pieces of angle iron to 24 inches. Measure and cut four pieces to 30 inches.

    • 5

Measure up 1-inch from the bottom of the 30-inch pieces and drill a hole. Measure 1-inch inward from each side of a 24-inch piece and drill a hole.

    • 6

Place two of the 30-inch pieces parallel on the ground. Set the 24-inch piece of angle iron at the bottom in between the 30-inch pieces. Align the holes and insert a bolt. Place a nut on the bolt and tighten by using the wrench. Repeat this step for the two 30-inch pieces and the 24-inch piece of angle iron.

    • 7

Measure and cut two 3-foot pieces of angle iron. Place the two pieces of angle iron along the bottom of the two sections of frame you assembled in Step 6. Drill a hole into the end of the angle iron and frame.

    • 8

Secure the pieces together using the bolts and nuts. This is the base of the frame.

    • 9

Set the base of the frame upright and set the top of the cart in place. Drill a hole into the angle iron and secure the top to the base with the bolts and nuts.

    • 10

Attach casters to the bottom of the base to make the cart mobile.
