How to Reset Metal Targets

Steel targets that are used at a shooting range are designed to be locked when a target has been hit. This is to indicate that a successful shot was made and to keep the target out of sight. There are typically two ways that a steel target can be reset. Targets can be reset manually or automatically, but this will depend on the type of target that is being used.

      Aim the gun at the reset plate after all of the designated targets have been hit. Fire the gun at the reset plate and the targets will automatically reset.

      Pull the pull string or cord after all of the targets have been hit to complete reset. If the target does not have a pull string or cord, go to the next step.

      Verify that all of the targets have been hit and make sure all weapons are discharged. Walk to the end of the range. Push on the release lever, if applicable, and manually pull the targets back into place.
