How to Make an Origami Glove

At the beginning of the 7th century, paper was introduced to Japan from China. Shortly afterward, "washi", a particularly thin type of paper, was used in folding paper decorations. Origami gained significant popularity beginning in 1776, when "How to Fold One Thousand Cranes" -- the first origami instruction book -- was published. An origami glove requires few steps and is a good model for beginners. A rectangular sheet of paper is required.

Instructions

    • 1

Orient you paper so the short sides run vertically. Fold the paper in two from left to right so the crease recedes into the paper (valley fold).

    • 2

Valley fold the paper in two again from left to right. Unfold.

    • 3

Valley fold the bottom corners so they meet in the middle, the inner edges running parallel with the center crease.

    • 4

Valley fold the new outer corners into the center as well so the inner edges also run along the center crease. Flip the model over.

    • 5

Valley fold the bottom corner so it sits just below the top edge of the model.

    • 6

Valley fold the top edge of the model over, so the bottom of this tab meets the point from Step 5. Valley fold this tab over again so it covers the point.

    • 7

Valley fold the top tab twice more. Fold the left and right corners inward and tuck the points under the middle section so the top edge of the sides sits under the top tab.

    • 8

Flip the model over and orient it so the top of the model becomes the bottom. Fold in two so the crease rises up on the paper (mountain fold). Unfold.
