How to Jam RF Signals on a Toy Car

A radio controlled (RC) car receives signals from a transmitter on a specific frequency of the radio wave spectrum. To keep an errant radio frequency (RF) signal from interfering with your control of the car, jam the signal with a portable RC RF transmitter that has user-selectable signal control. Purchase the transmitter from a hobby store or electronic shop.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert new batteries into the battery compartment of your RC car, the RF transmitter that comes with the car and the portable RC RF transmitter.

    • 2

Turn the power switch on the RC toy car to "On." Turn on the RF transmitter power switch.

    • 3

Have an assistant hold down a button so the car receives a signal, e.g., to light up its headlights. Wait for the car to perform an action, such as moving forward, that is not the action your assistant has initiated.

    • 4

Stand farther away from the RC toy car than the distance between it and your assistant. Turn on the portable RC RF transmitter's power button. Select a frequency from its dial.

    • 5

Press and hold down a button on the transmitter. Observe whether the car stops performing the action that your assistant did not initiate. If the action continues, release the button on the transmitter, change the frequency on the dial to another setting and press and hold the button down again. Continue to do this until the car performs only the action that your assistant tells it to.
