How to Calculate Sling Load Capacity

When lifting a heavy load with a sling loader, you need to calculate the sling load capacity that the load requires. This will depend on the weight of the load, how many legs will be supporting it, and the angle of those legs. With that information to hand, the required sling load capacity is easy to calculate.

Instructions

    • 1

Divide the weight of your load by the number of legs your hitch has. This number will be referred to as x.

    • 2

Find the load factor by viewing the load factor table on the reference page in the context of your sling angle. For example, if your sling angle is 85 degrees, the table will indicate that your load factor is 1.003.

    • 3

Multiply your sling angle factor by x. This number will be your sling load capacity for one leg of the hitch. Multiply by the number of legs to obtain the minimum sling capacity required to lift that load.
