Choose the socks you would like to showcase in your pictures. You may want to select a variety of colors, textures, styles, etc. to make your photographs more interesting. Some unusual types of socks include toe socks, toe-less socks and flip-flop socks.
Select interesting backdrops for your photographs. When photographing colorful or patterned socks, select neutral, solid-colored backgrounds that will make the colors and patterns pop. When photographing white or neutral-colored socks, opt for visually appealing backgrounds. Most outdoor locations would make excellent backgrounds for your pictures.
Make sure that you have sufficient lighting to illuminate the socks. Outdoor locations during daylight hours are great for taking bright, vibrant pictures.
Arrange the socks in creative ways. Some ideas include arranging them to spell out a word, making a picture or pattern with them, making sock puppets, or filling the socks with sand or beans to create interesting shapes. The more creative you get, the more interesting your photographs will be. Take multiple shots of the same sock in different locations. This will give you many options to choose from for your final sock-picture portfolio.
