How to Stand on a Longboard

Longboards are widely ridden on college campuses and along beaches, but can be used anywhere with a sidewalk. A longboard is much like a skateboard, only longer and a little more difficult to control. If you're learning how to ride for the first time you'll want to get your foot placement right so you can control your board and maintain balance when going down hills and when pushing.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand in the middle of your longboard with your feet shoulder length apart. Your front foot should be pointed out at a 45-degree angle and your back foot should be slightly angled.

    • 2

Decide which foot is most comfortable in front. If you are right handed you will probably be most comfortable with your left foot in front, and the opposite if you are left handed.

    • 3

Bend your knees slightly to lower your center of gravity and maintain balance.

    • 4

Lean to the right to go right and to the left to go left. If you want to go straight keep your weight centered in the middle of the board.
