How to Make Vibrating Instruments

Homemade musical instruments give even the most musically inept the opportunity to create music. Make a homemade musical instrument that will create sounds through vibration. The instrument you will make, called a "kazoo," only requires commonly found items from around the house. No special tools are needed.

Things You'll Need

Toilet paper
Plastic comb
Cellophane tape

Instructions

  Tear off four squares of toilet paper. Place the toilet paper horizontally on a table. Fold the left square over to the right square. Smooth down the crease with your fingers. Repeat this procedure an additional time.

  Rotate the toilet paper so that it is lying horizontally on the table. Place the plastic comb horizontally on the toilet paper. Tape the sides, top and bottom of the comb to the toilet paper with strips of cellophane tape.

  Hold the comb against your mouth with the toilet paper side facing out. Blow air against the comb while making a humming sound to cause sounds to emit from your vibrating musical instrument.
