How to Measure to Make a Paracord Bracelet

Paracord bracelets are survival bracelets made of parachute cords. The cords are woven into a bracelet and are usually about 10 feet long when unwound with a strength of 550 pounds. When you are hiking or camping and encounter an emergency, you cut the end of the bracelet and unravel the knots to use the cord for building a shelter, to use as a fishing line or to mark a trail. You must measure your wrist properly to make a paracord bracelet. If the bracelet is too large, it can slip over your wrist and you will lose it. If the bracelet is too small it will bite into your wrist and be difficult to remove when you need it.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay a ruler on a piece of paper horizontally. Measure ½ inch from the left side of the paper at the top and bottom and mark it with a pencil. Align a ruler vertically with the two dots and draw a vertical line next to the ruler using it as a straight edge.

    • 2

Cut the paper with scissors along the line to create a piece of paper that is ½ inch wide and 11 inches long.

    • 3

Wrap one end of the piece of paper around your wrist lightly. Mark the area where the loose end intersects with the starting point.

    • 4

Lay the piece of paper on a flat surface and cut it with scissors it to the size of your wrist.

    • 5

Measure and cut a 2 ½ foot length of paracord. Place both free ends together side by side. Place the doubled paracord next to the paper aligning the loop end with the right side of the paper. The two free ends will be on your left and extend past the paper.

    • 6

Hold the two pieces of paracord firmly in your left hand at the same length as the left side of your paper. Pick the loop up with your right hand, rotate it upward and fold it on top of the paracord to cross vertically at your left hand point. This will form a large circle of cord at the top.

    • 7

Pass the two loose ends upward and into the circle from front to back. Pull the right hand side tight to complete an overhand knot.

    • 8

Place the beginning of the bracelet next to the paper. Move the knot slightly in either direction before pulling it tight so that the piece of paper is the same length as the paracord is from the right side of the knot to the opposite end of the paracord loop.
