How to Make Your Handscrew Wood Clamps

Be prepared for fine woodworking projects by making your own hand screw wood clamps. Fine cigar boxes, decorative cutting boards and other similar projects all need a wood clamp at some point in the project when their wood pieces are glued together. Build your own hand screw clamps using small pieces of hardwood. Small scrap pieces of hardwood that are equal-size can be used as well. Use threaded casters to clamp the pieces of wood together and use caster-nuts that are fitted in the wood to secure the casters.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Drill two 1/2-inch holes through each 10-inch board so the centers are 1 inch away from each 8-inch edge. Space the holes 4 inches apart so the pair of holes are 2 inches away from one end and 4 inches away from the other end. Drill a 3/8-inch hole through each 1/2-inch hole at a right angle. The center of these holes are 1-inch away from the 8-inch edges as well. The 1/2-inch holes will holes will hold the caster nuts, and the 3/8-inch holes will hold the casters.

    • 2

Insert the caster-nuts into each 1/2-inch hole so the 3/8-inch threaded holes on the casters are aligned with the 3/8-inch holes in the boards.

    • 3

Position the boards so they are parallel, against each other and so the 3/8-inch holes are aligned. Screw the casters through the caster nuts, so there is a wood handle on each side of the wood clamp. Screw the casters until the two pieces of wood are together and centered on the caster.

    • 4

Twist the clamps simultaneously and counter-clockwise to loosen the wood clamp. Reverse the motion to tighten the clamp.
