How to Knot a Bullwhip

A bullwhip is useful for corralling animals. You can purchase standard whips, usually made from leather or suede, commercially. However, these will not have much impact without the knotted length called a popper. You can make or purchase differently-sized poppers created from various materials. Once you have a popper and a whip, all that remains is to knot the popper onto the whip correctly.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the bullwhip on a flat surface horizontally. Place the popper vertically over the end of the whip about 2 inches in so it is perpendicular to the whip itself. Keep the knotted end of the popper facing downward and the looped end facing upward.

    • 2

Fold the top end of the popper backward and under the whip. Pull the end so approximately 12 inches run parallel to the rest of the popper. Fold this foot-long piece up again across the whip again so the popper is wrapped around the whip.

    • 3

Slip the loop of the popper over the end of the whip by pulling the length horizontally across the rest of the popper. Push the loop 1/2 inch to 1 inch down the length of the whip. Pick up the opposite end of the popper and pull it very tight to secure it.
