How to Make Beaded Keychains With Charms

Key chains add a bit of flair to your purse, pocket or backpack, and they make it easier to locate difficult-to-find keys. A beaded key chain offers a homemade yet creative touch and dozens of options --- from bright colors to transparent pastels. Charms add extra detail to a key chain, and they can reflect your personality and special interests; however, they do have one disadvantage --- namely, the ceramic charms are often easier to damage or break. If you opt for delicate charms, keep your key chain in a location where it faces minimal impact.

Things You'll Need

Nylon or hemp bead string
Scissors
Beads
Charms

Instructions

  Cut a strand of nylon or hemp bead string about 12 to 16 inches long, using a scissors.

  Grasp the middle of the string, so that the middle of the string looks like a "U."

  Set the string on a flat, level surface such as a table. Place a key ring on top of the string, with the middle of the key ring in the center of the "U."

  Pull the center of the "U" over the key ring. Grasp the "U" in one hand and grasp the end of the string in the other hand. Pull the end of the string through the "U." Pull until the string is taut.

  Hold the strings together. Slide a bead over both strings and push it toward the key ring.

  Add beads and charms to the key chain, as desired.

  Tie a double knot at the end of the key chain.
