How to Build Shooting Range Props

Shooting ranges usually have a few different types of targets to shoot at. Many of these targets are tried and true tools to sharpen your targeting skills. Unfortunately, they tend to be rather monotonous and lacking imagination. Anyone can build silhouettes, round bull's eyes and metal flippers. What if you could build shooting range props of your own that were reactive to your shots and challenging, too? Using some old automotive parts and a metal post, you can build your own shooting range prop.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure and make a mark at 4 feet on each of the 5 steel tubes.

    • 2

Lay three of the 8-foot long, 4-by-4-inch steel tubes on a flat surface. Set them in the shape of a capital "H."

    • 3

Weld the "H" together. This will be the base that holds your targets up.

    • 4

Place another steel tube in the middle of the "H" frame. Weld the fourth tube that so it stands vertically.

    • 5

Weld the final piece of steel at the 4-foot mark across the top of the vertical steel tube. The vertical section should now look like a capital "T."

    • 6

Weld 2 chains (one for each side) on to the arms of the "T" at each of the corners.

    • 7

Measure and mark 2 feet on each arm of the target "T." At that mark, weld on the remaining chains. These chains will hold the targets.

    • 8

Weld on the targets to the dangling chains at your discretion. Try to keep the weight as close to even as possible on each side of the target "T."
