How to Build a TV Cabinet in a Motor Home

A TV cabinet is a piece of furniture that is used as a base for the television. As a first step in building a TV cabinet for a motor home, you need to determine the type of wood to use, such as cedar, that will blend with the interior. You can finish this project by cutting and pre-drilling all of the pieces and then putting them together to assemble the cabinet. The materials you need for this project can be found at your local home improvement store.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the size of the living area of your motor home with the tape measure. Determine the amount of space you have for the TV cabinet, such as five feet. Make a note of the width and size requirements such as 16 inches deep by 43 3/4 inches wide.

    • 2

Measure a piece of cedar to 16 inches by 43 3/4 inches with the tape measure. Make cut marks on the wood with the pencil. Cut the wood to this size with the table saw. Repeat this step to cut a second 16-inch by 43 3/4-inch piece of cedar.

    • 3

Measure each side of one piece and make a mark every four inches. Drill a pilot hole on each mark by using the power drill. Repeat this step for the bottom of the second piece.

    • 4

Measure the length of the second piece and mark the center. Place a straight edge on the mark and draw a line. Measure and mark the line every four inches. Drill pilot holes on the marks.

    • 5

Measure and cut three pieces of cedar to 16 inches by 16 inches. Measure 7 1/2 inches from the bottom on one side and make a mark with the pencil. Place a straight edge on the mark and draw a line.

    • 6

Measure the top edge and make a mark every four inches. Drill a pilot hole on each mark with a power drill. Repeat this step with the bottom edge. Insert a dowel into each hole. Tap the dowel into each hole with the hammer.

    • 7

Set the 16-inch by 16-inch pieces onto the 16-inch by 43 3/4-inch piece with the pilot holes drilled into the top. Align the dowels with the pilot holes and push into place.

    • 8

Place the second 16-inch by 43 3/4-inch piece over the top of the 16-inch by 16-inch pieces. Align each of the pilot holes with the dowels and press into place.
