How to Wax a Full Cast Crown

A full cast crown can be made by using dental wax. This is a piece of wax that is formed to the shape of the teeth in the mouth. A section of the wax is removed where the crown is to be cast. To make a full cast crown you will require a volunteer with a missing tooth.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a 3-inch-by-2-inch piece of dental wax with a knife. Fold the cut piece in half lengthwise and set it in a bowl of hot water to soften.

    • 2

Insert the soft dental wax into the mouth of your volunteer. Have the volunteer bite down on the dental wax to make an impression of the teeth. Re-soften the wax and place back in the mouth until you obtain the desired shape.

    • 3

Cut a "V" shape in the dental wax with the knife where the missing tooth is located.

    • 4

Place the dental wax in a bowl of cold water to harden to prevent distortion of the wax when in the mouth. Remove the dental wax from the water and allow it to air-dry.

    • 5

Fill the cut out area of the dental wax with the dental mold compound. Let the compound set for 60 seconds. Place the dental wax in the volunteer's mouth.

    • 6

Allow the dental mold compound to set for 30 seconds. Remove the dental wax from the volunteer's mouth. Set the dental wax aside and allow the dental mold compound to harden for two more minutes.

    • 7

Remove the crown mold from the dental wax.
