How to Make a Motored RC Track

Driving your radio-controlled (RC) car in an open space isn't as challenging as following a predetermined track. Since most RC tracks require membership and time slots to access, building your own track will allow you to practice your skills whenever you want. Learn how to build your own RC track to make an obstacle that fits your skill set and keeps you challenged.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide the plot size of your track; in other words, choose the limits of the track. If you have a 30-foot-by-30-foot room, then those are the limitations of the track. Place the plywood in position to cover the entire area of your track.

    • 2

Roll out the carpet and cover the entire surface of the plywood. Staple the carpet in position, then cut the excess around the perimeter of the wood with scissors. Discard the scraps.

    • 3

Draw the shape of the track with the black marker. Sketch lightly at first to make sure it is the perfect shape, then fill in the lines darker once you've settled on the layout.

    • 4

Cut the PVC pipe to fit all of the black lines. The PVC will act as a border of the track, preventing cars from flying of the track during races. Use the drill to put holes in the pipe every three feet. The consistent spacing will help the pipe maintain curved shapes without cracking.

    • 5

Lay the PVC along the black lines, then mount it to the board with the nails. Install all of the PVC pipe until the entire layout design is outlined with the pipe.
