The Specifications of a Mongoose MGX DXR

The Mongoose MGX DXR is a mountain bike released by Mongoose during the late 1990's and early 2000's. Although it maintains the looks of an off-road trekker, its design and body frame are for light-duty rides. The MGX DXR models serve as Mongoose's entry-level bikes, offering average performance with economical pricing.
  1. Body Frame

    • The MGX DXR's main body-frame is made up of an aluminum alloy; however, as this is an entry level bicycle, the alloy used is heavier when compared to other Mongoose bikes or mountain bikes designed for heavy-duty riding. The standard body frame of the MGX DXR is a 26-inch frame designed for an adult male. However, smaller versions are also available for women and teenagers.

    Accessories

    • This bike comes standard with all the basic accessories: a saddle, front and rear brakes, gear shifters, and front and back derailleur. All accessories come as non-branded items, except for the front and back derailleur made by Shimano. Since the bike was sold for only about $100.00 in Wal-mart during the early 2000's, it does come with several limitations on accessories and the types of materials used.

    Gears

    • Together with the Shimano derailleur comes a 21-speed gear shifting system. It has three main levels: low, medium and high. Gears help bikers adjust the force needed to pedal the bike. The derailleur installed on the bike has several sprockets on the front and back to make this possible. The gear switches are installed on the bike handle near the grip, either on the left or right handlebar.

    Dual Suspension System

    • The MGX DXR also comes standard with a dual suspension, which means that the bike has a shock absorber on both its front and back tires. This setup allows more comfortable riding with less bumps and more control. The shock absorbers are also adjustable. Even though the bike has a dual suspension system, its design and parts cannot handle heavy-duty riding, such as off-road treks.
