Instructions
Find other people interested in garden tractor pulls. Conduct an Internet search to find existing clubs in Indiana. With established memberships, these groups also will have published rules and likely have events already scheduled (see Reference 1). If no tractor pulling association exists, place a classified ad in the local newspapers or post a message on a social media site like Facebook to generate interest in starting a new club.
Develop the rules for competition if you are forming a new club. Garden tractors come in a variety of engine sizes, and some groups allow for "souped up" models to show off participants' creativity and mechanical skills. Set the parameters for driver and machine safety, course setup and club membership including dues, committees and authority. For example, the Central Illinois Garden Tractor Pullers published a 16-page rule book for its 2009 events, establishing regulations for everything from maximum wheelbase and allowable after-market parts to pre-event inspections and driver dress code.
Find a place to have competitions. Approach members of festival or county fair boards who typically will look for new, unique and fun activities to include on the schedule of events. Contact racetrack owners and ask if they will include a garden tractor pull demonstration or competition during regular events. Ask if a member of your club is interested in having an event on his property. Publicize the pull on Facebook and with news releases.
