How to Fix Cracks in Sunglasses Frames

On sunny days, sunglasses are a must and, for some, they can be costly. Maybe you are required to wear prescription sunglasses, or you just prefer to wear more expensive brands. Whatever the case, if your frame cracks, you may not be in the position to run out and purchase brand-new shades. A few simple steps can be taken to repair the cracked frames without much expense.

Instructions

    • 1

Bring a pot of water to a boil and hold the cracked or broken portion of frame over the boiling water until the plastic is softened.

    • 2

Cut a pin or sewing needle to a 1/2-inch length, removing the pin head or eye depending on the type of needle you use.

    • 3

Stick one end of the pin into one side of the crack, then press the other side of the crack into the exposed end of the pin. Do not press the frame completely together yet.

    • 4

Place a small drop of super glue on one side of the crack and press together firmly.

    • 5

Smooth the plastic while it is still soft. If it has hardened too much, hold it over the boiling water again.

    • 6

Wipe away any glue that seeps out using either a damp cloth or paper towel.

    • 7

File any rough edges once the plastic has hardened. A fine nail file works for this.

    • 8

Apply a small amount of plastic polish to the area to eliminate any evidence of where the frame was cracked.
