How to Make a Sling Out of Paracord

Slings have been used for thousands of years for hunting weapons and war weapons. A famous story in the Bible discusses the defeat of Goliath by a stone thrown from a sling. A sling is designed to hold a hard projectile that is slung into the air by swinging it in a circular motion. Make your own sling out of paracord. Paracord is used for parachutes but also works well other projects, including slings. Paracord is often found at military surplus and camping stores.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the 70-inch paracord flat and find its 35-inch center. Make an S at the center that is 4 inches wide.

    • 2

Push the top and bottom of the S together and tie a knot on both sides of the S using the remaining paracord on each side. You should have three 4-inch cords at the middle of the 70-inch paracord.

    • 3

Tie the 28-inch cord to left side of the three cords at the center of the 70-inch cord. Weave the line over and under these three cords until you reach the other end of the three-cord-set. This is the sling pouch. Cut off any excess and melt the end of the cord to avoid fraying. Melt the ends of the 70-inch cord as well.

    • 4

Hold both ends of the 70-inch cords so there is a fold in the sling pouch. Place your projectile in the pouch, swing the sling at your target in a circular motion and let go of one end of the paracord. The projectile will fly out of the sling.
