How to Cut a Snowflake for Children

Snowflakes have beautiful six-sided designs, and you can create your own snowflakes from paper. Paper snowflakes are a perfect classroom or Sunday school project, and when finished, they are decorations you can pin up on a bulletin board or on a window. Make your own paper snowflakes and use them to decorate a winter classroom.

Instructions

    • 1

Start with a square of paper. If your paper is a rectangle, cut a strip off the narrow end to make it a square.

    • 2

Fold the square in half diagonally.

    • 3

Fold the triangle in half so the longest side is divided along the middle.

    • 4

Place the triangle so that the triangle opens to the right, and the longest side is situated towards you.

    • 5

Divide the bottom of the triangle into three equal segments and label the dividing points A, B, C and D with a pencil. That means that the corner to the far right is A, the two points that divide the side into thirds are B and C, respectively, and the corner to the far left is D.

    • 6

Fold the right side over to point C.

    • 7

Fold the left side over the right side to point D. This leaves you with a pointed four-sided shape with one long point towards the top and two smaller points protruding from the bottom.

    • 8

Cut the bottom two points off of this figure, leaving behind a long triangle.

    • 9

Cut notches into either long side of the triangle.

    • 10

Unfold the triangle to reveal a snowflake.
