Magic Linking Rings, or Chinese Linking Rings, as they are commonly called, has long been a popular magic trick. The trick involves two or more metal rings that, to the audience, appear to be solid. The rings are manipulated in various ways by the performer, linking them together and breaking them apart while the rings continue to appear intact. Successfully performed, this trick is sure to wow audiences. Getting the rings apart in a smooth fashion is key to convincingly performing this trick.

Trick ring with a gap
Whole ring

Instructions

  Take two rings, one with the gap in the metal and one that is whole, and link them together.

  Keeping your index finger over the gap in the trick ring to cover the hole from the audience, slide the whole ring into position near the gap to get ready to make the transition.

  Use some sort of misdirection to further conceal the complete ring from passing through the gap in the trick ring. A "magical" breath of air on the rings or rubbing the rings together can distract the audience's eyes.

  Slide the rings apart by pulling the complete ring through the gap of the trick ring. Keep concealing the gap on the trick ring with your fingers.
